Ingredients:
  • (13.8 oz. can) refrigerated pizza crust dough
  • (1 Tbsp.) olive oil
  • (1/4 cup) onion, chopped
  • (4 oz.) chicken sausage w/jalapeño peppers, chopped
  • (2 large) eggs, lightly beaten
  • (1/2 cup) Monterey Jack cheese, shredded
  • (1/4 cup) cheddar cheese, shredded
  • (1/4 cup) jalapeño peppers, seeded and chopped
  • (1 large) egg white, lightly beaten

Savory Breakfast Pastry

This impressive braided pastry is filled with spicy chicken sausage, two kinds of cheese and scrambled eggs.

    Instructions

  1. 1Preheat oven to 425°F. Spray a baking sheet with cooking spray.
  2. 2Form dough into a 15x10 in. rectangle on greased baking sheet. Place a large skillet over medium heat. Add oil.
  3. 3When hot, add onion and sausage, cook 9 minutes or until lightly browned, stirring occasionally. Add eggs, cook another 1 1/2 minutes or until eggs are set. Set aside off heat.

  4. 4Spread a layer of Monterey Jack, eggs, cheddar and jalapeno peppers lengthwise down the center of the dough, leaving a 2 1/2 in. border on both sides.

  5. 5Make 2 inch angled slits, 1 inch apart along both sides of the dough. Gently pull strips over the filling, crossing over each other.
  6. 6When done, the dough will look braided. Use a pastry brush to brush the top with the egg white.
  7. 7Bake 15 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy. Let cool 5 minutes, then slice.
