Women are More Susceptible to Infection During Ovulation, Study Shows

It’s been a long held belief within some sections of the medical industry that woman may be at an increased risk of contracting an infection during their menstrual cycle. A recent study conducted in Spain is adding some clarity to that notion, and explaining exactly how and why woman more are susceptible to contracting an infection during ovulation.

Essentially, the study concluded that the heightened levels of estrogen that accompany the ovulation phase of the menstrual cycle reduce the overall effectiveness of the immune system. It is believed that during this portion of the menstrual cycle, in which the ovaries produce the leukocyte to be fertilized and allow pregnancy, the female body displays a slight decrease in immune system strength, most likely to increase the chances of the sperm’s ability to fertilize the egg.

Cancer Death Rates are On the Decline, Study Shows

When most individuals here the word “cancer” whispered from their medical professional it sends chills up their spine and generates a plethora of emotional feelings – and with good reason. Currently, cancer is the number two leading cause of death in the United States, just slightly behind heart disease.

However, while cancer is still potentially a highly deadly disease that can take many forms and has no reliable cure, the findings of a recent study indicates that humans are beginning to win the war on cancer, both in terms of cancer death rates and in the rate of cancer incidences.

HPV Vaccine is No Replacement for Safe Sex, Experts Say

Controversy involving the humanpapilloma virus (HPV) vaccine has been steadily making news headlines over the past several months. HPV is a sexually transmitted disease that, in several cases, had lead to cervical cancer.

While some individuals have argued that the HPV vaccine should be distributed equally to both boys and girls alike, others argue that the preferred approach should be to focus the vaccination efforts solely on a single sex.

All medical experts and physicians agree, however, that the HPV vaccine is not a replacement for safe sex. Unfortunately, a recent study shows that many young women and girls are not aware of this fact, putting them at greater risk of contracting a variety of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) other than HPV.

How to Stick to Your New Year’s Resolution

New Year’s Eve is just around the corner, and if you are like many of the millions of other Americans, you have probably already spent quite a bit of time thinking about what your New Year’s Resolutions will be for the upcoming year.

It is human nature for a large majority of the population to look forward to the upcoming year with optimism and hope. For this reason, it is also easy to define a set of goals that you would like to change about yourself.

For example, start a weight loss program, exercise more, quit smoking, get promoted to a higher position at work, go back to school, and so on. This being said, literally millions of people define their New Year’s Resolutions year in and year out and thereafter, fail to achieve them.

In fact, the unfortunate truth is that there is a high probability that the majority of New Year’s Resolutions that are made each and every year will not be achieved, let alone even survive through the first couple weeks in January.
