Women’s Stroke Risk Reduced by Daily Alcoholic Beverage
A number of studies have indicated the cardiovascular health benefits of drinking alcoholic beverages for women such as wine and beer in moderation, concluding that consuming one drink per day is a health-positive lifestyle choice for many adults.
The key point here being moderation as many individuals are all to familiar of the detrimental aspects of regularly consuming too much alcohol, whether it be from personal experience or from observing a friend or relative.
A recently published study suggests that women who drink one glass of wine per day are significantly less likely to have a stroke than those who do not drink at all, adding to the existing body of evidence linking limited alcohol consumption with improved physical and mental health.

Scottish Smoking Ban Improves Pregnancy Health
Virtually everyone knows that smoking cigarettes for an extended period of time can lead to a variety of diseases affecting the heart, liver and lungs of both men and women alike. To this end, smoking is a major contributor for strokes, heart attacks, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), including emphysema and chronic bronchitis, and a variety of cancers including cancers of the larynx and mouth, lung cancer, and pancreatic cancer. In addition, smoking has also been proven to affect unborn children as preterm deliveries are much more frequent in women that regularly smoke.
In 2006, smoking was banned in all public places in Scotland. Since then, the health of both pregnant women and their babies has improved dramatically, according to a recent study conducted by the University of Glasgow.
The Scottish Smoking Ban researchers view the conclusions of their study as evidence that tobacco control legislation can not only have a very real impact on the health and wellness of the general population but, the overall health care costs of the general population as well.
Breast Feeding Benefits Moms, Not Just Babies
It’s commonly understood for literally hundreds of years that breast-feeding provides a large number of health benefits to babies, ranging from improved growth and development, both physically and mentally, to increased resistance to infection and disease.
As recent as two days ago, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) released an updated policy statement reaffirming its stance that breast milk is the single most complete nutritional source for infants.
The American Academy of Pediatrics policy statement also included a collection of clinical evidence concluding that the health benefits associated with breast feeding are not just for babies, but for mothers as well.

Adult Acne in Women More Common than in Men, Study Shows
Although acne is typically thought of as a problem primarily faced by teens, it’s common knowledge that many adults develop and struggle with acne as well.
Acne is usually of result of excessive bacteria buildup, excess skin oil production and improper sloughing off of dead skin cells, though diet and other factors play a role as well, indicating that the best acne treatment for some individuals may be a simple change in eating habits.
According to a recently published study found in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, gender is yet another contributing factor to acne risk. In fact, the study shows that adult acne is more common among women than men for all age groups over 20.

Frequent Migraines Increase Depression Risk for Women
We are all familiar with having a common headache and the affects that they can have on us. From a continual throbbing to pain behind the eyes to even a stiffening of the neck, the severity of each headache, and for each individual, can vary. However, migraine headaches can be much more severe and, in some instances, literally debilitating.
According to recent research examining 14 years of medical data, women who experience frequent migraine headaches are more likely to develop depression.
Dr. Timothy A. Collins, a neurologist and headache and migraine treatment researcher at Duke University Medical Center who was not directly involved in the study, said that the study “confirms” what experts have long believed.
