Want to Live to 100? Eat a Mediterranean Diet, Study Says
Many of us have heard the saying “you are what you eat” and many us also believe that there is truth in the saying as well. More specifically, the importance of consistently feeding our bodies with high quality whole foods that are high in vitamin and mineral content allows the various processes that are routinely performed by our bodies to operate at their optimum levels and is of vital importance to living a long and prosperous life.
Regularly consuming a “Mediterranean type diet” is one of the best ways to live to the age of 100 and the best diet for long life, according to a new study by Italian researchers. The study examined residents of Sicily who were at least 100 years old and found that most of their diets consisted largely of whole grains, fruits and vegetables. Regular Soda Consumption Boosts Stroke Risk
A couple of months ago, we reported that drinking diet soda on a daily basis may increase the probability of suffering from a heart attack or stroke by as much as 43%. Now, a newly released clinical study is indicating that drinking regular soda on a daily basis may influence stroke risk as well.
In fact, adults that participated in the study who drank at least one regular soda each day increased their risk of having a stroke over a 20-year to 30-year period by 16%.
The medical researchers that performed the study to determine if there was a correlation between soda consumption and stroke risk concluded that regularly substituting non-sugar-sweetened beverages was statistically successful at reducing the probability of suffering from a stroke.

Fast Food Sodium Levels Vary by Country
If you’re on a low-sodium diet or if you simply like to monitor your salt intake, you’ll be interested to know that sodium content in fast food products depends largely on where you buy it. No, this isn’t a question of McDonald’s vs. Burger King, but rather one of North America vs. Europe, according to a new study by researchers at Alberta, Canada’s University of Calgary.
The differences are drastic, with the researchers stating that a Chicken McNugget sold in the United States contains about 2.5 times as much sodium as a McNugget sold in the United Kindom, for example.
The trend was similar when comparing other Canadian and American fast food restaurants to their counterparts in France and the United Kingdom.

3 Scientifically-Proven Ways to Curb Children’s Soda Consumption
With today’s lifestyles tending to be fairly hectic and busy, it’s hard for many individuals to find the time to complete all of the items, chores, and responsibilities related to being a parent that is present, involved in their children’s daily lives, and still find the time for rest and relaxation.
Included in this is the challenge of routinely preparing healthy and nutritious meals for not only your children, but yourself as well. This can be witnessed by the fact that both childhood and adult obesity has drastically risen over the past 20 years.
There are two primary reasons for this increase in obesity: the lack of regular physical activity and dietary habits that are filled with consistently consuming high calorie processed foods that are high in fat.
This being said, as a concerned parent, you’ve probably given thought to ways in which you can consistently prepare healthier meals and eliminate the various foods and beverages that are nutritionally deficient and calorically prohibitive. One such beverage that you have probably considered is soda pop. After all, soda for kids consists of little more than sugar, artificial flavorings and empty calories, and its caffeine content can make children hyperactive during the day and irritable as bedtime approaches.

Berries Reduce Parkinsons Risk in Men and Women
There has been countless reports detailing the health benefits of what are being defined as superfruits – exotic fruits such as gogi berries, acai berries and pomegranates that contain extremely high levels of antioxidants. However, antioxidants are not the only beneficial compounds that are found in berries.
Berries also contain flavonoids. Flavonoids are defined as plant-based compounds that contain powerful antioxidant properties which support reductions in inflammation, promote healthy arteries, and assist in combating the effects of aging by preventing and repairing cellular damage.
According to a newly published study, flavonoids may assist in, among several of health and wellness benefits, reducing the risk of developing Parkinson’s disease in both men and women.
The researchers behind the study believe that flavonoids, found in red wine and certain types of tea in addition to berries, may provide significant benefits to overall human health.
