Study: Virtual Partners Boost Exercise Motivation
Regularly exercising with a high level of consistency can be fairly challenging as many of us are caught in a busy and hectic lifestyle that leaves little time for ourselves.
In addition, throw on top of the time constraints, a lack of a reliable workout partner to assist in motivating you, ensure that you remain consistent, and challenge you with new exercise types and approaches and it is easy to see why so many people do not regularly exercise.
Most individuals agree that exercise is more fun when you do it with a workout partner. However, as previously mentioned, it can sometimes be difficult to find a partner whose workout schedule, health and fitness goals, and current level of fitness reasonably match your own.
Fortunately, researchers at Michigan State University have discovered that the primary benefit of exercising with a real partner – motivation – can be just as present when exercising with a virtual workout partner.

One-Quarter of U.S. Teens are Diabetic or Pre-diabetic
Most of us are aware that living a healthy lifestyle that is filled with regular and consistent physical activity, a high quality nutritional diet that includes routinely consuming whole foods that are high in vitamins and minerals, and ensuring that we receive an adequate amount of rest, relaxation, and sleep are imperative to good health and mental wellness.
However, it is becoming more and more evident that this type of lifestyle needs to be incorporated at a much younger age than most people thought as many of the medical conditions and diseases that appeared to be reserved for the elderly are no longer the case. This being said, cases of cancer, diabetes, a variety of allergies, obesity, high blood pressure, and heart disease, just to name a few, are all occurring at younger and younger ages across the United States.
For instance, diabetes in teens is becoming an increasingly severe problem for America, according to a recent study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Approximately 9% of teens between the ages of 12 and 19 were diagnosed with diabetes or pre-diabetes in 1999. That figure rose to a staggering 23% by 2008, according to the researchers behind the study.

Duke Study Predicts 42% Obesity Rate in U.S. by 2030
Although a recently published Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) study indicates that obesity rates have leveled off in the United States, a new study suggests that the current pause in increasing obesity may only be temporary.
In fact, clinical researchers from Duke University now believe that obesity rates will rise steadily over the course of the next 20 years, and predict that by 2030 obesity could impact 42% of the United States population.
In order for an individual to be considered obese, they must technically have a body mass index (BMI) value that is in excess of 30. In addition, the body mass index range of values used to define an individual that is considered “overweight” is between 25 and 30.

Frequent Jogging Increases Life Expectancy
If you are looking for a form of cardiovascular exercise that will improve your current health, both physically and mentally, and add years to your life expectancy, jogging may be just what the doctor ordered, according to a new jogging life expectancy study recently published by a group of Danish researchers.
In the study, women who jogged frequently added an average of 5.6 years to their lives, while men fared even better with a life expectancy increase of 6.2 years.
Just how frequent is “frequent jogging?” Regardless of how many sessions it entails, jogging for between 1 and 2.5 hours each week at a slow-to-average pace offers the most significant benefits, according to Dr. Peter Schnohr, cardiologist and researcher for the Copenhagen City Heart Study.

Physical Activity Lowers Alzheimer’s Risk in Older Adults
If you’re an older adult, staying physically active may be an excellent way of reducing your risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease, according to a new study by researchers at Rush University Medical Center. Dr. Aron S. Buchman, a neurological sciences professor and one of the lead researchers behind the study, said that the study indicates that all forms of physical activity, including traditional exercise in addition to activities like cleaning, gardening, doing laundry and cooking, can reduce Alzheimer’s risk in elderly adults.
