Certain Apple and Grape Juices Contain Harmful Arsenic
With so many food and beverage manufacturers to choose from, it is important for health conscience parents to take the time to thoroughly read the food labels to determine if the ingredients meet their health guidelines and criteria.
In addition, it is also important to, at least marginally, understand the various manufacturing processes that the food or beverage product undergoes, from the initial growing and harvesting steps to the final packaging process.
When many parents choose a healthy drink to feed to their young children, they often reach for the nearest bottle of apple or grape juice. Unfortunately, a recent study conducted by Consumer Reports indicates that some samples from manufacturers of apple and grape juices contain harmful arsenic levels.
Arsenic is a compound that has been proven to increase the risk of chronic diseases such as cancer, Type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Arsenic in juice brands like Gerber, Gold Emblem, and Mott’s have been shown to be at levels that are considered to be dangerous, according to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
Are Morning Snacks Ruining Your Weight Loss Efforts?
With so many individuals, from adolescents to the elderly, either overweight or obese in today’s society, it’s no wonder that there is no shortage of “so called” expert advise on how to safely and effectively lose excess body weight.
With so many approaches being touted as the latest and greatest way to lose weight, how is an individual to determine what they believe to be the best approach?
For example, there is a difference in weight loss approach where some individuals recommend regularly consuming three square meals per day, while others say that you will better stabilize your blood sugar level, feel less hungry and ultimately lose more weight by grazing, defined as consistently eating six smaller meals throughout the day.
Additional examples include differences in what types of foods should be consumed when trying to lose weight and should individuals looking to lose weight eat breakfast – and to top it off, now there is a new study that is suggesting that healthy morning snacks may reduce the effectiveness of your weight loss efforts.

How to Lower Cholesterol Naturally
When many individuals are initially diagnosed by their medical physician as having high levels of cholesterol, they immediately look to the various large pharmaceutical manufacturers for assistance in addressing their condition.
After all, many prescription medications are indeed capable of lowering cholesterol levels, especially when combined with healthy lifestyle changes and the careful monitoring from their medical professional.
However, even following these proposed medical guidelines and procedures can still result in suffering from a large number of side effects that can include, but are not limited to, cramps, stomach pain, diarrhea, nausea, constipation and muscle soreness, weakness and pain.
But what if you are wanting to lower your cholesterol level while, at the same time, avoid the harmful side effects? Fortunately, there are ways to lower cholesterol naturally, and a new study is showing that the more natural approaches may be just as effective as costly prescription medications.

Canned Food Contains More BPA Than Previously Assumed
There are primarily three approaches to consider when choosing how to purchase fruits and vegetables: fresh right from the garden and/or orchard, frozen, or canned. While virtually everyone would agree that the best approach is to regularly consume all natural fresh fruit and vegetables; in many instances, doing so requires a little more effort.
For instance, fresh produce will spoil much more quickly than the other two approaches. This being said, in general, fresh produce will need to be consumed fairly quickly to avoid spoilage and will last longer if refrigerated.
However, while canned foods offer a convenient, although less flavorful alternative to fresh foods, researchers are now citing one more reason to avoid consuming them in large quantities.
It’s a non-debatable long-standing fact among the researchers and scientists that canned goods contain the dangerous compound BPA (bisphenol A), however, it’s also now believed that the levels of BPA in canned foods are much higher than previously thought.
Energy Drinks Linked with Increased Hospital Visits
Over the last several years, energy drinks have sky-rocketed in popularity. In fact, recent data suggests that over 100,000,000 individuals living in the United States consumed an energy drink in 2011, totaling over 6 billion energy drinks being sold. In addition, the majority of energy drink sales are by teenagers. The rise in the popularity of energy drinks can be associated with young Americans specifically drinking energy drinks to boost their alertness and stamina, especially when the trials and tribulations of the day begin to fatigue their mind and body.
Although there’s nothing wildly unhealthy about such a practice, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) is now issuing a warning stating that consuming energy drinks in excess, or in combination with drugs and alcohol, could be very dangerous.
