High Resting Heart Rate Predicts Heart Disease, Study Suggests
The term “heart disease” is a general term that is used to describe a wide range of diseases that affect the heart. The various types of diseases that fall under the term heart disease include diseases of the blood vessels, often called coronary artery disease; heart rhythm issues (arrhythmias), infections of the heart, and heart defects that individuals are born with, congenital heart defects.
Within many medical circles, the term “heart disease” is used interchangeably with the term “cardiovascular disease.”
Cardiovascular disease is typically associated with conditions that involve plaque build up along the inner walls of the arteries of the heart which, in turn, narrows the arteries and reduces blood flow to the heart.
This condition is called ischemic heart disease (IHD) and can lead to a heart attack, chest pain (angina) or stroke. Ischemic heart disease is the most common form of heart disease. Additional types of heart conditions and issues, including infections and events that affect the heart muscle, valves or beating rhythm, also fall under the general term of heart disease.

Testosterone Treatment Boosts Muscle, but is it Safe?
Testosterone therapy is a medical treatment that is designed to boost the testosterone levels in men that are lacking sufficient quantities of the hormone. In recent years, several medical professionals have suggested that testosterone therapy would be ideal for maintaining the health of aging men.
Others, however, believe that more research remains before it can be determined whether testosterone therapy could increase the risk of life-threatening health conditions including cancer and heart disease. So, is testosterone safe?
Proponents of the therapy just received a breakthrough in the form of a study indicating that testosterone treatments lasting just six months can result in a few pounds of lost body fat along with a few pounds of gained muscle mass.
Still, some medical scientists and professionals argue that the benefits associated with testosterone therapy may not outweigh the potential health risks. Could testosterone therapy be a viable treatment for you? The primary thought here is – proceed with caution and make sure that you take the time to thoroughly research the “pros and cons” of testosterone therapy and of course, consult your medical physician.

Study: Quitting Smoking Boosts Your Happiness
We are all aware of the health risks associated with smoking cigarettes – various forms of cancer, emphysema, asthma, heart disease, macular degeneration, premature aging, Graves disease, Thyroid disease, and osteoporosis, to name a few.
Plenty of rumors and myths nag those who look for a reason to quit smoking: you will gain weight (not necessarily true), you will battle food cravings for months on end (not true for most individuals), and you will become a crabby and irritable person without your constant nicotine crutch. While some ex-smokers do gain weight after kicking the habit, studies have shown that modifications to diet and exercise can curb post-smoking weight gain. Now, a new study is proving that third myth false as well. The findings of the study suggest that ex-smokers are happier overall than those who continue to smoke.

Report: 10% of Strokes Result from Work Stress
While a certain level of stress within the workplace is normal, after all it is work; an excessive level of stress can certainly interfere with your productivity and can even impact your physical and emotional health and well being. For this reason, learning to deal with workplace stress can ultimately mean the difference between success and failure.
While you can not control every aspect of your work environment, it does not mean that you are completely powerless, even when you are placed in a difficult situation. This being said, finding ways to manage your workplace stress is not about making large changes that are possibly emotionally driven or necessarily rethinking your personal career goals – Instead managing your workplace stress is more about focusing on the one thing that you are always able to maintain control over: Yourself.

Fathers Who Smoke Increase Leukemia Risk of Children
If you’re a male smoker and you plan on conceiving a child in the near future, now may be the time to kick your habit based on new research into the causes of leukemia in children.
New Research from Australia indicates that men who regularly smoke are 15% more likely to father a child who will develop acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), the most common type of childhood cancer.
The National Cancer Institute states that ALL affects at least 6 children per 200,000 born. While rare relative to other childhood diseases it is quite common when compared to other childhood cancers. In addition, roughly 1,000 children die of ALL each year. The news shines a light on the fathers impact on the child’s health, which was initially thought to be less significant.
