Indoor Tanning Exposé Part 2: Basal Cell Carcinoma

Yesterday, we reported that many young individuals, especially women between the ages of 14 and 22, regularly participate in indoor tanning despite understanding the documented health risks.

As previously reported, indoor tanning can lead to as high as a 75% increase in the risk of developing melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer and a common subject of indoor tanning melanoma studies.

Indoor Tanning Prevalent Among Young Women Despite Risks

If you are like many Americans, you may frequent a tanning salon during the fall and winter months as a way of maintaining your summer complexion without access to warm, sunny beaches. Or, perhaps you typically visit the tanning salons during the mid spring months to establish your base tan prior to the upcoming hot summer months. The more important question to ask is why is it that so many individuals tan anyway? Whether it is routinely tanning at a salon, in your backyard, or at the beach, literally millions of people tan each and every year.

Although eating a small amount of dark chocolate on a regular basis has been proven to boost your overall cardiovascular health, overindulging, without reducing your overall caloric intake or caloric expenditure, can cause you to quickly pack on the additional pounds thanks to chocolate’s high saturated fat and sugar content.

A new study is indicating that taking a short, brisk walk can significantly reduce chocolate cravings while providing some moderate physical exercise at the same time.

FDA: HCG Weight Loss Products are Dangerous

Weight loss seekers, listen up: Today the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) issued a warning stating that HCG (human chorionic gonadotropin), a hormone found in some weight loss products, could be very dangerous, not to mention ineffective and illegal as well.

HCG is found naturally in pregnant women’s urine, and has been touted as the active ingredient in a variety of over-the-counter weight loss products that are offered in the form of sprays, tablets and oral droplets.

Seven HCG weight loss product companies, all of whom have received warning letters from the FDA and the FTC (Federal Trade Commission), sell over-the-counter products containing HCG, advertising them as “natural” metabolism boosters.
