Skip Crazy Diets, Natural Detox is Best
The popular detox diets often touted by celebrities and so-called “health gurus” run the gamut from extremely restrictive to downright zany. For instance, you may come across a detox diet that instructs you to consume only cranberry juice, or some combination of lemon juice, maple syrup and cayenne pepper, all while eating absolutely no solid whole foods for several consecutive days.
Sound healthy? Of course not. Our bodies need consistent nutritional replenishment in the form of whole foods that are high in vitamins, minerals, healthy fats, proteins and complex carbohydrates, and a super-restrictive “detox diet” will do little more than strip your body of the nutrients it needs, potentially interfering with your metabolism in the process. Instead, a natural detox diet may be more appropriate.

How to Stick to Your New Year’s Resolution
New Year’s Eve is just around the corner, and if you are like many of the millions of other Americans, you have probably already spent quite a bit of time thinking about what your New Year’s Resolutions will be for the upcoming year.
It is human nature for a large majority of the population to look forward to the upcoming year with optimism and hope. For this reason, it is also easy to define a set of goals that you would like to change about yourself.
For example, start a weight loss program, exercise more, quit smoking, get promoted to a higher position at work, go back to school, and so on. This being said, literally millions of people define their New Year’s Resolutions year in and year out and thereafter, fail to achieve them.
In fact, the unfortunate truth is that there is a high probability that the majority of New Year’s Resolutions that are made each and every year will not be achieved, let alone even survive through the first couple weeks in January.

Indoor Tanning Exposé Part 2: Basal Cell Carcinoma
Yesterday, we reported that many young individuals, especially women between the ages of 14 and 22, regularly participate in indoor tanning despite understanding the documented health risks.
As previously reported, indoor tanning can lead to as high as a 75% increase in the risk of developing melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer and a common subject of indoor tanning melanoma studies.
Today, we continue our indoor tanning exposé with additional information revealing that tanning bed use can increase your chances of developing early-onset BCC (basal cell carcinoma) by 69%. The findings come courtesy of a study conducted at New Haven, Connecticut’s Yale School of Public Health.

Indoor Tanning Prevalent Among Young Women Despite Risks
If you are like many Americans, you may frequent a tanning salon during the fall and winter months as a way of maintaining your summer complexion without access to warm, sunny beaches. Or, perhaps you typically visit the tanning salons during the mid spring months to establish your base tan prior to the upcoming hot summer months. The more important question to ask is why is it that so many individuals tan anyway? Whether it is routinely tanning at a salon, in your backyard, or at the beach, literally millions of people tan each and every year.
In both cases, indoor tanning salons and outdoor tanning will expose the skin to both UVA and UVB rays of light, albeit at different ratios. While there are health and wellness benefits related to exposing the skin to UVA and UVB rays of light, as with virtually everything in life, moderation is the key.

5 Tips for Winter Skin Care
Virtually everyone likes to maintain a well groomed, youthful, and vibrant appearance throughout the year as well as from year to year as they age. There are several factors that contribute to the “healthiness” of our outward appearance. These factors can be divided into two primary groups.
The first group is a more macro based set of factors and include genetics, nutrition, physical activity, and rest, relaxation, and sleep. In combination, these factors will support not only a healthy body but, the internal bodily functions that are required to sustain life itself, as well as optimal health from day to day.
The second group is considered a micro based set of factors and include climate conditions, exposure to the sun and wind, pollution, and other criteria related to the are in which you live.
