Study: Virtual Partners Boost Exercise Motivation
Regularly exercising with a high level of consistency can be fairly challenging as many of us are caught in a busy and hectic lifestyle that leaves little time for ourselves.
In addition, throw on top of the time constraints, a lack of a reliable workout partner to assist in motivating you, ensure that you remain consistent, and challenge you with new exercise types and approaches and it is easy to see why so many people do not regularly exercise.
Most individuals agree that exercise is more fun when you do it with a workout partner. However, as previously mentioned, it can sometimes be difficult to find a partner whose workout schedule, health and fitness goals, and current level of fitness reasonably match your own.
Fortunately, researchers at Michigan State University have discovered that the primary benefit of exercising with a real partner – motivation – can be just as present when exercising with a virtual workout partner.

Scheduled Eating Prevents Weight Gain
Conventional dietary wisdom says that weight gain is primarily caused by consuming more calories than your body burns on that given day. While that’s certainly true, it’s also caused by adhering to an unusual eating schedule, according to a recently published study involving mice. Now, scientist believe they have found evidence that an eating schedule to lose weight is a good part of a healthy diet plan.
During the study, the mice that received a high-fat diet and were allowed to eat around the clock gained weight, as expected.
However, a second group of mice that was fed the exact same diet but restricted to an eight-hour eating schedule did not gain as much weight, despite eating the same number of calories overall as the mice in the first group.
According to the researchers, the results of the study lend credence to the notion that it’s not just what types of food you consume, but also when you eat them as well that will ultimately determine whether you lose weight or gain weigh.

Duke Study Predicts 42% Obesity Rate in U.S. by 2030
Although a recently published Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) study indicates that obesity rates have leveled off in the United States, a new study suggests that the current pause in increasing obesity may only be temporary.
In fact, clinical researchers from Duke University now believe that obesity rates will rise steadily over the course of the next 20 years, and predict that by 2030 obesity could impact 42% of the United States population.
In order for an individual to be considered obese, they must technically have a body mass index (BMI) value that is in excess of 30. In addition, the body mass index range of values used to define an individual that is considered “overweight” is between 25 and 30.

Want to Live to 100? Eat a Mediterranean Diet, Study Says
Many of us have heard the saying “you are what you eat” and many us also believe that there is truth in the saying as well. More specifically, the importance of consistently feeding our bodies with high quality whole foods that are high in vitamin and mineral content allows the various processes that are routinely performed by our bodies to operate at their optimum levels and is of vital importance to living a long and prosperous life.
Regularly consuming a “Mediterranean type diet” is one of the best ways to live to the age of 100 and the best diet for long life, according to a new study by Italian researchers. The study examined residents of Sicily who were at least 100 years old and found that most of their diets consisted largely of whole grains, fruits and vegetables. The diets were notably lacking in sweets, simple carbohydrates and red meat.

Air Pollution May Boost Risk of Childhood Obesity
Parents seeking to minimize health risks for their children, including those that have yet to be born, will be interested in the findings of a new study conducted by Columbia University.
According to the study’s findings, the effects of air pollution on unborn children still in the womb are more likely to result in obesity later in life as compared to children born in areas with little to no air pollution.
In particular, the researchers discovered that unborn children exposed to high levels of pollutants called polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (or PAHs) were 1.8 times more likely to become obese by age 5 than unborn children exposed to minimal levels of these chemicals. The obesity risk increased to 2.3 times the normal rate by the time the children reached age 7.
