Indoor Tanning Exposé Part 2: Basal Cell Carcinoma

Yesterday, we reported that many young individuals, especially women between the ages of 14 and 22, regularly participate in indoor tanning despite understanding the documented health risks.

As previously reported, indoor tanning can lead to as high as a 75% increase in the risk of developing melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer and a common subject of indoor tanning melanoma studies.

Today, we continue our indoor tanning exposé with additional information revealing that tanning bed use can increase your chances of developing early-onset BCC (basal cell carcinoma) by 69%. The findings come courtesy of a study conducted at New Haven, Connecticut’s Yale School of Public Health.

Indoor Tanning Prevalent Among Young Women Despite Risks

If you are like many Americans, you may frequent a tanning salon during the fall and winter months as a way of maintaining your summer complexion without access to warm, sunny beaches. Or, perhaps you typically visit the tanning salons during the mid spring months to establish your base tan prior to the upcoming hot summer months. The more important question to ask is why is it that so many individuals tan anyway? FDA: HCG Weight Loss Products are Dangerous

Weight loss seekers, listen up: Today the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) issued a warning stating that HCG (human chorionic gonadotropin), a hormone found in some weight loss products, could be very dangerous, not to mention ineffective and illegal as well.

HCG is found naturally in pregnant women’s urine, and has been touted as the active ingredient in a variety of over-the-counter weight loss products that are offered in the form of sprays, tablets and oral droplets.

Seven HCG weight loss product companies, all of whom have received warning letters from the FDA and the FTC (Federal Trade Commission), sell over-the-counter products containing HCG, advertising them as “natural” metabolism boosters.

Eating Fish May Help Prevent Alzheimer’s, Study Suggests

If you enjoy eating fish on a regular basis, you will be happy to know that you are already eating a natural whole food that prevents alzheimers, and are actively taking steps towards preventing the onset of Alzheimer’s disease altogether, a new study suggests.

Fish has long been considered a “brain food,” or a food whose consumption naturally improves brain functionality. However, until recently, there was a lack of clinical scientific evidence to conclusively prove that this was indeed true.

In fact, the aforementioned study presented recently in Chicago at the annual meeting of the Radiological Society of North America was the first to determine how eating fish might change the brain’s structure.
