Want to Quit Smoking? Eat Fruits and Veggies, Study Says
For anyone who has smoked cigarettes for an extended period of time, most likely, you are familiar with just how hard it is to quit.
In fact, many scientific studies have shown that smoking cigarettes can be as addictive as heroin or cocaine. The primary reason, nicotine. Smoking cigarettes, and the act of smoking cigarettes, create both a physical and emotional dependency.
Because of this, most individuals that try to quit smoking find it to be quite challenging. However, there are approaches that have been proven to increase the success rate of successfully quitting cigarettes, for once and for all.
In fact, according to a recently published study, there are certain foods that can assist you in successfully giving up cigarettes specifically, fruits and vegetables.
During the study, the smokers who consumed the largest quantities of vegetables and fruits were three times as likely to kick the habit, for a minimum of 30 days, when compared to the individuals who ate the smallest quantities of the same types of fruits and vegetables.
The researchers behind the study are confident in their findings because they accounted for a number of factors that could’ve influenced the results, such as gender, age, education, income, race and lifestyle choices such as illicit drug use, alcohol use and exercise frequency.

Genetics Influence Success Potential of Nicotine Patch, Gum
For many individuals, quitting smoking can be extremely difficult, especially for the remainder of their life. While there are several approaches, techniques, and even products that are designed to assist smokers in quitting the habit, each individual needs to take the time to determine which approach is best for them. So if you have been trying to quit smoking, you may have been discouraged by recent news headlines suggesting that smoking cessation aides such as nicotine gum and nicotine patches are ineffective when it comes to kicking the habit for good.
Fortunately, a more recent nicotine patch success rate study by researchers at St. Louis, Missouri’s Washington University indicates that these types of smoking cessation products may indeed be effective for some smokers, given that they possess certain genetic variations.

Excessive Exercise Can Damage Heart
You have probably said to yourself at sometime in the past, “If only I had the time and motivation to exercise for hours every day, my health issues and concerns would disappear – right?”
Wrong, according to a recent excessive exercise effects study conducted by researchers at Kansas City, Missouri’s St. Luke’s Hospital. In fact, cardiologist Dr. James O’Keefe and other researchers behind the study say that extreme forms of cardiovascular exercise can be detrimental to heart health, particularly in certain individuals.
The results of the study serve as unfortunate news for individuals who routinely participate in extreme endurance types sports such as triathlons, marathons and long-distance swimming and cycling races, to name a few.
However, it’s also good news for individuals who only have a moderate amount of time to devote to exercise, and whose primary goal is to improve health and fitness rather than train for competition. In fact, Dr. O’Keefe said that the vast majority of exercise benefits can be realized with less than an hour of exercise each day. “Extreme exercise is not really conducive to great cardiovascular health,” according to Dr. O’Keefe.
