Vitamin B12 is a water soluble nutrient that is produced by the human intestinal bacteria and is also known as cyanocobalamin. This vitamin is relatively stable except for being prone to destruction by alkalies, acids, sunlight, alcohol, sleeping pills and estrogen. It, like many of the other vitamins the the B complex group, is involved the metabolism process that occurs throughout the body. It was initially discovered due to its ability to treat an autoimmune disease called pernicious anemia.
