Healthier Homemade Onion Dip

Ingredients:
  • (1 Tbsp.) extra-virgin olive oil
  • (4 cups) onion, chopped
  • (3/4 tsp.) salt
  • (14 oz. can) reduced-sodium beef broth, or 1 3/4 cups mushroom broth
  • (2 tsp.) onion powder
  • (2 Tbsp.) distilled white vinegar
  • (1 cup) reduced-fat sour cream
  • (1/3 cup) nonfat plain yogurt

Healthier Homemade Onion Dip

A cool and creamy dip with caramelized onions.

About 25 minutes (plus 30 minutes chilling)

About 40 minutes

    Instructions

  1. 1Place a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add oil. When hot, add onions and salt. Cook 6-10 minutes, stirring often.
  2. 2Stir in broth, scraping up bits the bottom of the pan. Simmer 10-20 minutes, or until liquid is almost evaporated.
  3. 3Lower heat to medium-low and cook 5-8 minutes, until onions are browned. Add onion powder and vinegar, cook another 1-2 minutes. Set aside off heat.

  4. 4In a medium bowl, combine sour cream, yogurt and cooled onion mixture. Refrigerate at least 30 minutes and serve.
