With winter fully upon us and many of the areas of the country experiencing record snow storms, it can be all too tempting to stay inside where it’s warm and cozy rather than exercising outdoors during the cold winter months.
However, if you have regularly exercised throughout the year and are well on your way to achieving your personal health and fitness goals, the last thing that you want to do is discontinue your workout routine through the winter months. Although setting up a personal gym at your home or becoming a member at a fitness center are great ways to stay in good shape during the colder months, many fitness seekers actually prefer the fresh air and exhilaration that comes with exercising outdoors during the winter, performing exercises like jogging, cycling, cross country skiing, and snowshoeing.
A fairly high percentage of individuals consistently make New’s Years Resolutions each and every year. In addition, the topics and resolutions themselves tend to be diverse and cover a broad range. However, if physical exercise, weight loss, and living an overall healthier lifestyle are components of your New Year’s Resolution, you’re probably trying to decide whether it’s better to work out at a fitness center or at home.
Although performing your exercise routines at home is certainly a viable option as it is convenient, private and totally viable for real fitness gains, many individuals enjoy the added motivation, support and equipment selection that come with a fitness center. However, not all health and fitness centers are created equally, and there are fitness center tips you should know if you’re considering becoming a member of one.
The popular detox diets often touted by celebrities and so-called “health gurus” run the gamut from extremely restrictive to downright zany. For instance, you may come across a detox diet that instructs you to consume only cranberry juice, or some combination of lemon juice, maple syrup and cayenne pepper, all while eating absolutely no solid whole foods for several consecutive days.
Sound healthy? Of course not. Our bodies need consistent nutritional replenishment in the form of whole foods that are high in vitamins, minerals, healthy fats, proteins and complex carbohydrates, and a super-restrictive “detox diet” will do little more than strip your body of the nutrients it needs, potentially interfering with your metabolism in the process. Instead, a natural detox diet may be more appropriate.
New Year’s Eve is just around the corner, and if you are like many of the millions of other Americans, you have probably already spent quite a bit of time thinking about what your New Year’s Resolutions will be for the upcoming year.
It is human nature for a large majority of the population to look forward to the upcoming year with optimism and hope. For this reason, it is also easy to define a set of goals that you would like to change about yourself.
For example, start a weight loss program, exercise more, quit smoking, get promoted to a higher position at work, go back to school, and so on. This being said, literally millions of people define their New Year’s Resolutions year in and year out and thereafter, fail to achieve them.
In fact, the unfortunate truth is that there is a high probability that the majority of New Year’s Resolutions that are made each and every year will not be achieved, let alone even survive through the first couple weeks in January.
Testosterone therapy is a medical treatment that is designed to boost the testosterone levels in men that are lacking sufficient quantities of the hormone. In recent years, several medical professionals have suggested that testosterone therapy would be ideal for maintaining the health of aging men.
Others, however, believe that more research remains before it can be determined whether testosterone therapy could increase the risk of life-threatening health conditions including cancer and heart disease. So, is testosterone safe?
Proponents of the therapy just received a breakthrough in the form of a study indicating that testosterone treatments lasting just six months can result in a few pounds of lost body fat along with a few pounds of gained muscle mass.
Still, some medical scientists and professionals argue that the benefits associated with testosterone therapy may not outweigh the potential health risks. Could testosterone therapy be a viable treatment for you? The primary thought here is – proceed with caution and make sure that you take the time to thoroughly research the “pros and cons” of testosterone therapy and of course, consult your medical physician.
