Blisters
Additional Information
Home Treatments:
Most blisters can be treated at home. They can be popped and drained using a sterilized needle. The area should be gently washed before making a small puncture on the blister to drain out the fluid. An antibiotic ointment should then be applied on the area to prevent infection. The blistered skin should not be immediately removed because the new skin needs time to form
Professional Medical Treatments:
professional medical help is not a common method of treatment for blisters, as most gradually heal themselves or can be treated by draining the fluid. A doctor may aid in the treatment of blisters if they develop into an infection. In such a case, topical or oral medication is usually prescribed.
Physical Therapy and Exercises:
Blisters may occur during bouts of exercise. They occur due to friction on the heels, soles of feet and palms of the hands against the ground, equipment or footwear.
Exercise Techniques to Prevent Injury:
Prevention of blisters usually involve minor lifestyle changes. When participating in an activity that may cause friction on the palms or foot, use proper protection such as gloves or shoes. Avoid prolonged irritation of skin, and do not try to fight through the pain as this will further aggravate the blister and may cause infection.
